DiGilioJohnAt the recent Special Libraries Association 2015 Annual Conference, iBraryGuy’s own John DiGilio was feted for his service. John was the recipient of the 2015 Thomson Reuters Award for Career Achievement. Presented by the Legal Division of SLA, the award is designed to recognize a member who has provided significant service to the SLA Legal Division. The award is generously sponsored by Thomson Reuters Westlaw.

John is a former chair of the Legal Division and is the current Treasurer of SLA. In presenting him with the award, Thomson’s National Manager of Librarian Relations Lori Hedstom, offered some of these additional details on his career and contributions to SLA:

In this association, John served on the Legal Division Board 2009-2012, the long cycle that includes being Chair and doing conference program planning. He played a strong leadership role during the difficult fiscal downturn. He reinvigorated the division by emphasizing professional development as a priority for members, and helped re-establish the Division’s connection with AALL; ironically, he was also responsible for creating the awards we are celebrating today.

During his term he launched the new web site, created a new strategic plan, and established a Fiscal Oversight Task Force & strategic financial plan.

Hedstrom’s remarks also included quotes submitted by DiGilio’s colleagues, co-workers, and even his boss. John is the National Manager of Research Services at Reed Smith LLP and is based in the firm’s Los Angeles office.

As he wraps up his tenure on the Board of the Special Libraries Association, John is looking forward to getting even more heavily involved in his pasion for writing and blogging. You will be able to find him here, as the administrator and an editor for On Firmer Ground, a curator for PinHawk’s Librarian News Digest, and as an occasional contributor to FreePint, where he reviews legal research tools and solutions. John is on Twitter under the handle @iBraryGuy.
